London Heathrow reports cargo record in 2023

London Heathrow Airport has reported handling more than 1.5 million metric tonnes of air cargo in 2023, a new annual record for the airport. Pharmaceutical shipments and e-commerce parcels drove most of the growth, followed by aerospace components and perishable goods. Heathrow remains the UK's largest cargo hub by tonnage despite having no dedicated cargo-only runway slots. The airport's cargo strategy for 2024–2026 focuses on expanding temperature-controlled warehousing and adding dedicated animal care facilities near the existing freight village.
